Religious Education

Hi everyone,

I hope that you all had a great summer!

As many of you know, as of June 29, St. Rita Church merged with St. Stephen Church into Divine Mercy Parish.  Fr. Sharkey has retired, and our new pastor is Fr. Joe DiSciacca.

Since we are now one parish, we will be combining the religious education programs for the upcoming year.  Eleanor Shaw, the Coordinator of Religious Education at St. Stephen, and I have been working together throughout the summer to find a way to merge our two programs.  There will be some changes for everyone, but we truly believe it will be for the best for all of our students.

We are looking to have the Sunday Mass times changed to the following:

7:30am at St. Rita
9:00am at St. Stephen
11:30am at St. Rita

Classes for Grades PreK-8 will be on Sunday from 10:00-11:15am at St. Stephen School.  Classes will begin on Sunday, September 17.  Since it is a year with many changes and new faces, we are going to hold an Opening Day on Saturday, September 16 in the St. Stephen Church Hall.  During this time you can pick up your book, meet our catechists, find your classroom, and meet our new pastor.  We will meet at the following times:

* Grades PreK-4    9:00am
* Grades 5-8         10:00am
* Grades 9 & 10    11:00am

If you have children that fall into different groups, you can all attend at one time.  It will be a fun morning to reconnect with friends, make some new ones, and find out more information about the upcoming year.

I have attached a copy of the registration form to the email.  Since we are sending them out much later than usual (since there were so many details to figure out), we would greatly appreciate if you send them back as soon as you can, so we can be sure to have enough books and materials for everyone, as well as have everyone in a class before the first day.

I also attached a copy of the calendar for the year.

If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact me ([email protected] or 203-281-7522) or Eleanor Shaw (203-641-5183 or [email protected]).

This year will be an adjustment for all of us, so we greatly appreciate your patience.

I look forward to seeing you all soon!  Enjoy your last few days of summer, and good luck with your first few weeks of school!

God bless,
Megan Zinn
Coordinator of Religious Education
