If you are recently divorced or separated you may need to give yourself some time to work through your loss and pain. “New Life” is a program in which you can deal with initial grieving stage of your divorce.

“New Life” is a nine week program designed for persons in the early stages of separation or divorce. In this program we offer a “safe place” for people to gain a perspective on their loss. It is designed to help people cope with the stresses and strains associated with separation and divorce. It helps people understand some of their emotional responses and find ways of coping that will lead to growth and the eventual restructuring of their lives.

“New Life” is not a counseling session. It is based upon the premise that sharing one’s thoughts, feelings, and experiences with other people in similar situations is one of the most helpful ways to move beyond the pain of a separation or divorce. In light of this, what is said in these sessions is strictly confidential.

Some of the topics that will be addressed in this program are:

  • Self image
  • Stress
  • Anger
  • Blame and Guilt
  • Loneliness
  • How to move toward growth

Time:
The program consists of one meeting each week from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. for nine weeks, plus exercises to be practiced between the sessions. The guide that will be used is Divorce and Beyond, by James Greteman, C.S.C. and Leon Haberkamp, M.S.W.

Facilitators:
Trained facilitators will conduct the seminar. They are not counselors, rather they are people who have experienced separation or divorce in their lives and can walk with the participants on their grief journey.

Cost:
The suggest donation of the entire nine week course is $10 to cover the cost of the necessary materials. A small donation toward refreshments may be requested.

Registration:
It is necessary that you pre-register for the program. Information and dates of meetings and registration may be made by calling Sister Mauryeen O’Brien at the Family Life Office, 203-230-2460.
