Knights Donation Helps Refugee Family

The St. Rita Knights of Columbus has donated $703 to St. Thomas More, the Catholic Chapel and Center at Yale University (STM) to help support a refugee family of 8 from Syria. They arrived in New Haven after spending the last few years in a camp in Jordan. The family is expected to learn English, find jobs, become financially independent of the supporting agency, Integrated Refugee Immigration Services, and begin paying back loans to the United States government for their airfare.

The donation from the KofC Council will provide assistance for food, utilities, rent, medical attention, education and other needs. A carwash was organized by chair Angus Lamont with St. Rita School students to raise the funds. With the support of Principal Patti Tiezzi and Assistant Principal Sister Anne D’Alessio, the students of Mrs. Robinson’s 8th grade class participated in the carwash. This effort sends a message of support to share with the greater community.
